Trustee
Help shape the next stage of a growing local charity. First-time trustees are very welcome, and we will give you full induction and training.

About the role
We are looking for two or three new trustees, including a Treasurer. Since 2017 we have grown from about 100 to more than 700 members. The next stage needs strong governance and thoughtful strategic leadership.
What trustees do
- Set the charity's direction, with our vision and values at its heart
- Approve strategies and policies, and check how they are working
- Oversee budgets and financial plans, and approve the annual accounts
- Make sure key risks are identified and managed
- Support and challenge the staff team
- Promote the charity using your skills, knowledge and contacts
Trustees always act together as a board, not as individuals, and are not involved in day-to-day management. There are also chances to lead a discussion, join a working group, represent the charity or visit our activities to hear from Friends, carers and volunteers.
Who we are looking for
You do not need governance experience. We would particularly welcome experience in digital, fundraising, research or legal work. Above all we are looking for:
- Enthusiasm for our vision and a commitment to our values
- Sound, independent judgement and the ability to think strategically
- Good communication and a willingness to take part in discussion
- A strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Commitment to the seven principles of public life (the Nolan principles)
We welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly young people, and from people with lived experience of dementia or caring.
Terms
- A voluntary role. Reasonable expenses are paid
- No fixed term of office
- Appointment is subject to two references, a DBS check and eligibility to act as a charity trustee
- All trustees are invited to join the Finance Subcommittee, which meets quarterly
Support you will get
- A structured induction and trustee training
- Support from the Chair and the other trustees
- Chances to meet Friends, carers, volunteers and staff
