Our people

The people behind DTW

Meet the staff who keep Dementia Together Wirral running day to day, and the volunteer trustees who govern the charity. Together they bring experience, energy and kindness to everything we do.

Five people on a heritage railway platform hold a large presentation cheque for Dementia Together Wirral.
People

Meet the team

A small group with a big heart.

Helen
Bookkeeper

Helen keeps our finances on track, so that money is accounted for and managed with care.

Nikky
Administrator

Nikky is the friendly voice behind the scenes. Meetings, minutes, social channels. She keeps us organised.

Freya
Administrator

Freya is in the office five days a week and is often the first friendly voice you'll hear when you ring us.

Sian
Volunteer coordinator

Sian looks after more than sixty volunteers. She matches people to roles where they'll do their best work. She works Monday and Tuesday.

Allan
Life president

Allan is our founder and was one of the volunteers who started DTW in 2017. His vision and values still guide everything we do on the Wirral.

Governance

Our trustees

Our trustees set the direction and answer to the Friends, carers and volunteers the charity exists for. They meet at least four times a year, and many also help out at sessions.

John Rowson
Chair

John chairs the board and the Finance Subcommittee, and brings significant experience of the charity sector. He works with our bookkeeper on the annual budget, leads on the risk register, and drafted the conflicts of interest policy the board adopted in January 2026. He is happy to talk informally with anyone thinking about becoming a trustee.

Sharon Bird
Vice chair

Sharon supports the Chair and leads for the board on safeguarding. She has completed full safeguarding training and is taking the lead on DBS checks for trustees and for volunteers in regular roles.

Ted Behan
Trustee

Ted is the board's fundraising lead. He summarises the quarterly fundraising report for trustees and follows up new local leads on the board's behalf, including enquiries about additional activities and premises.

Ian Kirby
Trustee

Longstanding trustee whose experience guides the board's decisions year round.

Heather Blackford
Trustee

Heather joined the board in October 2025 and supports on marketing, brand and communications.

Kirsty Hornby
Trustee

Kirsty is one of our trustees, helping to set the charity's direction alongside the rest of the board.

Become a trustee

We're recruiting two or three new trustees, including a Treasurer. First-time trustees are very welcome.

We look for a mix of skills, from finance, digital, fundraising and legal work to lived experience of dementia or caring. John, our Chair, is happy to have an informal chat.

Questions

Find answers to common questions about our team, our trustees and how we work.

How do I contact a team member or trustee?

Call us on 07935 797445 or email info@dementiatogetherwirral.org. We're here Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and you can also message us through the contact form. For governance or trustee matters, you can email our Chair, John Rowson, at johnrowson@dementiatogetherwirral.org. We always welcome feedback about the team too.

Are staff dementia-trained?

Our staff and volunteers complete training when they join, and we keep learning about the best ways to support Friends and carers.

Can I speak to someone confidentially?

Yes. If you need to talk through something private, just ask any team member and we'll find a quiet space. We keep what you tell us private, unless we are worried someone is at risk of harm.

What do trustees do?

Our trustees are volunteers who oversee the charity's work. They set the strategy, approve the budget, monitor risk and make sure we spend money wisely. The board meets at least four times a year, and between meetings trustees stay involved through working groups and by visiting sessions across the Wirral.

How are trustees appointed?

We recruit trustees through open calls and personal recommendation, and we welcome first-time trustees. Appointments are made after two references and a DBS check, and every trustee signs a confidentiality and conflicts of interest declaration.
